A Thrilling Day Out of Rock

What a spectacular weekend dive from Rock! The sun was shining, the sea was calm, and our spirits were high as we set off for two incredible dives.

Anna Sofie Shipwreck: 40 m of Underwater History

We descended to the wreck of the Anna Sofie, resting at about 40 m. With crystal-clear 15 m+ visibility, the steel hull was a mesmerizing sight. And that’s when the magic happened: we spotted what we’re pretty sure is the world’s largest crayfish scuttling around the stern!

Trevose Head: A Shallower Spectacle

Next up, we explored the shallower reefs of Trevose Head, perfect for those wanting a shallower site, making for a colourful, unforgettable dive.

Launch & Trailer Tips

Vehicle Access: A 4×4 on the beach ramp makes launching a breeze.
Busy Mornings: Weekends fill up fast—aim to arrive early!
Trailer Parking: Leave trailers at the top of the beach, against the wall.
Tide Awareness: Check tide tables—high tide narrows the usable beach.

Josh Bonfield: Yeah, simple enough with a 4×4 on the beach. It was a bit busy with everyone launching in the morning though. Trailers are left at the top of the beach against the wall. Just need to be aware of tide and heights that there’s enough beach. Mike is our resident expert

Just off the coast of Fowey, Cornwall, lies an unexpected underwater gem: the Kantong dredger, affectionately known by local divers as “the Buckets.” Diving this fascinating wreck with Mid Cornwall Divers offers a unique experience that blends industrial history with rich marine life. Originally a bucket dredger used for clearing harbours, the Kantong now rests peacefully on the seabed, its skeletal remains transformed into an artificial reef. Divers are often drawn to the eerie outlines of the buckets still in place, now encrusted with sponges and home to curious wrasse, pollock, and the occasional conger eel. The structure makes for an easy and engaging dive, typically at a manageable depth for most certified divers.

Mid Cornwall Divers provide a relaxed but safety-conscious experience, perfect for exploring the wreck’s nooks and crannies. Visibility can vary, but even in less-than-perfect conditions, the dive remains atmospheric and rewarding. With its proximity to Fowey and a relatively short boat journey out, it’s a favourite among local divers and a great introduction to wreck diving in Cornwall. Ever fancied exploring further than #Cornwall‘s beaches? Reefs and shipwrecks, teeming with all sorts of colourful sea life, right here on your doorstep.

If so, we’re running an Ocean Diver course in February 2025 – this qualification will allow you to explore not only Cornwall, but marine reefs worldwide, down to 20 meters deep.

We’re #BSAC club, and meet socially each week, operate two of our own boats and (weather permitting!) dive at least once a week.
