Formed in 1976 our club caters for all diver qualifications. We are able to facilitate Try Dives and also provide training to take you right through your qualifications – Ocean Diver, Sports Diver, Dive Leader, and Advanced Diver (and CCR training too!). Diving every weekend, members are guaranteed to have an opportunity to advance their diving experience and enjoy the wonderful dive locations situated around St Austell Bay, as well as the north coast (Rock, Hayle) and further west (Penzance, Sennen Cove).
EXPERTISE
Instructors with Experience
As well as diving, members can enjoy various social activities throughout the year. We meet every Wednesday evening at St Austell Band Club. We also attend the legendary Kernow Festival held every year in Penzance. This sees members from all the clubs in Cornwall, some from Devon and some from beyond get together to enjoy a weekend of great diving from Penzance. On the Saturday night clubs take it in turns to host the barbeque for up to 150 people – all to raise funds for the DDRC (Diving Disease Research Centre) in Plymouth who serve our diving community so well. We camp at Ponsandane Campsite, dive from Penzance and party as much as possible!
Diving is our passion, the reefs around our Cornwall shores are alive with sea life (John Dory, Octopus, Cuttlefish, Lobsters, Crabs to name but a few and Dolphins are a regular observer of our divers on shot lines) and we also have some amazing wrecks. We have two RIBS to facilitate our diving and go out every Sunday. All members wanting to dive are accommodated on our Sunday dives. Running alongside this, we also have regular Deep Dives for those more qualified – and these also present an opportunity for members to practice their boat handling and diver cox qualifications in exchange for a beer!
Try Dives
The try dive session is carried out on Wednesday, at St Austell Leisure center, from 7:00- 8.30pm.
You will have a one-hour session where one of our club instructors will talk you through everything and then you will have a try dive in the pool. The club provides all equipment for the try dive, all you need to bring is: your swimming shorts a rash vest or T-shirt to wear in the pool a towel for afterwards.
After you have completed your try dive you will receive a BSAC Try Dive certificate. The cost for a try dive is £30 per person or 2 people on the same night for £40 and we request payment in full prior to the try dive.
Please email us if you are interested in booking a try dive. We will agree a date for your try dive, and provide payment details. You will need to complete a Try Dive medical form, which you can download here. Please print it out, fill it in and bring it along with you.
